HISTORY

This home, now La Belle Riviere Bed & Breakfast, has had several owners before Carol and Jeff Aucoin purchased it. The modest Cajun home was built by Jeff's grandfather, Lawrence Miller. It was then owned by Ervin Miller, Jeff's uncle and later sold to Jeff and Carol Aucoin.

INTERESTING FACTS

Upon purchasing their home, Jeff and Carol had to move it on a barge from the St. Martin Parish side of Belle River to the Assumption Parish side of Belle River. It was remodeled in 1990 and a guest house was built next to the swimming pool in 2004.

OUR COMMUNITY

We are truly a melting pot of cultures. Our ancestors faced an adjustment to an entirely different geography. This change resulted in developing an architecture preparation of new types of food, clothing, socialization and other aspects of survival associated with settling a new land. Belle River still remains culturally connected to the past. Change is slow to come. There remains respect and admiration of their ancestors. There remains a love of the river and bayous in this area.
